You might be at risk
Fueled by rising obesity rates, unhealthy eating, and declining physical activity, nearly 26 million people in the US currently have diabetes. Seventy-nine million are affected by pre-diabetes, but only 10% know they have it. Pre-diabetes is a condition where people have blood glucose levels that are higher than normal but are not high enough to be classified as diabetes. So, what can be done to help?
The Goldsboro Family YMCA is now offering the YMCA’s Prevent T2 (PT2). The YMCA’s Prevent T2 helps those at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles to reduce their chances of developing diabetes, which can cost patients $14,000 annually in health care costs.

The program provides a supportive environment where participants work together in a small group to learn about healthier eating and increasing their physical activity in order to reduce their risk for developing diabetes. The program, which is led by a trained PT2 Lifestyle Coach in a classroom setting, is delivered over a one-year period, consisting of 25 sessions. The program goals are to reduce body weight by 7% and increase physical activity by 150 minutes per week.
