GET IN THE GAME
At the Goldsboro Family YMCA, sports and recreational activities are something special. Friendly competition, lots of variety and a supportive environment means team sports and recreation is fun again. Whether your child misses "suiting up" or is new to team sports, the Y's sports leagues provide a perfect opportunity to be active, social and reconnect with friends in the sport they love. Basketball, soccer, flag football and T-Ball are just some of the options available to get your child on the court or on the field. New to sports? Check out our Pee-Wee Sports program - perfect for introducing your child to three different ones!
Instructors and Coaches - often volunteers and many parents - model fairness and hard work while emphasizing teamwork, cooperation, and developing good values in our sports programs. We are always looking for volunteer coaches that will recognize achievements large and small and understand that winning is not just about the score. By playing sports, kids and their families feel a sense of belonging that comes from a community gathering together to cheer on their team. Everyone plays - Everyone wins!!!
Youth Sports Sponsorship
Show your support of our Goldsboro community and kids' growth by sponsoring Youth Sports at the Y. When you sponsor a team, your business name or logo will appear on a team’s shirt or jersey, and you will receive a team photo to display in your workplace. You get great visibility in the community while making it possible for kids to be involved in team sports at an affordable cost.
Youth baseball is an exciting sport combining team play and individual skills. Y youth baseball promises no try outs, no getting cut and no bench warmers! Open to kids ages 4-8.
Y Baseball is designed to teach young baseball players the fundamentals of the game. Participants will learn how to catch, throw, and bat in a fun team atmosphere.
Formats include t-ball and coach-pitch. The focus of the league is to have fun, meet new friends and play in a non-competitive environment. Each participant will receive a game jersey & hat.
Got game? Hit the hardwoods with the folks who invented the game - the YMCA! The Goldsboro Family YMCA Youth Basketball is co-ed and open to kids ages 4-15.
Basketball was invented in 1891. While teaching at the International YMCA Training School, James Naismith was given the challenge of creating a game that could be played indoors during the cold winter months. Hanging simple peach baskets and using a soccer ball, Naismith created the game of basketball and wrote the first 13 rules of the game.
Y youth sports encourage and promote healthy kids, families and communities by placing a priority on family involvement, healthy competition rather than rivalry, the value of participation over winning, team-building as well as individual development, a positive self-image and a sense of fair play and mutual respect for others. Parents are encouraged to be more than mere spectators, by contributing their time as volunteer coaches - as well as being their kid's greatest fan.
Our Pee Wee Sports Program is designed to introduce children ages 3 – 6 to the basic skills of a sport while developing sportsmanship and self-esteem. Above all, we want your child to enjoy sports and have fun! Parent participation is required, and very much enjoyed!
Youth learn the fundamentals of Basketball, Soccer and T-Ball during this 6-week program. This is a parent-child participation program, so please ensure a parent/guardian always accompanies your child to their class. Another great way to play and bond with your child!
Be goal oriented! Youth Soccer is an exciting sport combining team play and individual skills. Y youth soccer promises no try outs, no getting cut and no bench warmers! Every child plays at least half of every game while making friends and learning new techniques. The Y Youth Sports Program helps kids become not only better players, but better people as well. It's a progressive program, with multiple age-specific levels. Every child gets to play and the games are safe, exciting and fun. We encourage fair play, positive competition, and family involvement. Open to girls and boys ages 4-13 (cannot turn 14 during the season.)
