WARM Hearts was established in 2003 in Goldsboro in cooperation with eighteen local organizations, agencies and churches brought together by a common belief that many youth in the community lacked positive adult influences in their lives. Determined to make a difference, the Wayne Area Role Models with Hearts Mentoring Program was formed and implemented by The Goldsboro Family YMCA.

The program serves a broad range of youth who have been identified as in need of a mentor by a referral source or parent/guardian. Mentors are trained adult volunteers, over age 18, who are carefully matched with Goldsboro High School Freshmen in one-to-one mentoring relationships. Mentors work to understand cultural and social development, risk factors, and offer ways to communicate and relate to youth.

WARM Hearts provides youth with a supportive mentor who can serve as a positive role model, who will listen to their problems and provide them a window to the world outside their environment. The goal of the program is to help youth gain positive, consistent, and nurturing relationships with adults, to build self-esteem, decision-making skills, improve school performance and make healthy interpersonal relationships. Volunteer mentors help youth realize they are special, have potential and can achieve their goals. The program focuses on class attendance, behavior and grades especially.

We are looking for adults to join our mentoring team.  Invest in the future—be a mentor!
