Setting kids up for success!
Here at the Y we aim to set our youth up for a successful future. One of the best ways to do that is to educate them early on about the importance of living a healthy, fulfilling life. We have a variety of programs to help do just that!
C.H.A.N.G.E. for Children
C.H.A.N.G.E. is a program dedicated to teaching kids who struggle with weight issues how to achieve a healthier lifestyle. Participants (ages 6-16) will experience a variety of activities to keep them moving, including ball games, fitness classes, swimming, skating and more! The class meets three times a week from 5:30-6:30pm. Cost is $75 for the 12-week program. For more information see our C.H.A.N.G.E. page.
Girls on the Run/STRIDE
Running and character building are the focuses of these programs. Girls on the Run and STRIDE (for boys) are volunteer-led afterschool programs at various sites throughout our region. Participants meet twice a week and at the end of the program participate in a 5k race. Anyone interested in the program, or in volunteering to work with the students, should contact Vanessa.
Calling all homeschool parents! Are you looking for a fun, weekly activity for your child(ren) to do? Enroll them in our Homeschool PE program where they can come have fun and make new friends! Typically the program meets weekly on Wednesdays from 12:55-2:00pm. The 3 month program only costs $50 per child for members, and $75 for nonmembers. For more information and details on how to register please visit our Homeschool PE page.
We also offer a youth membership for kids ages 12-15 years old to use the Y facilities without a parent/guardian for up to two hours per day. Youth have access to fitness classes, swimming, basketball, the track, racquetball, and a Wellness Center orientation. More information about Primetime is available here.
Ride the Bus Teen Program
Join us for a bus ride to the Goldsboro Family YMCA after school lets out. The bus will bring your child to the Y to take part in a basketball game with friends, go swimming, exercise, or just hang out. Only $15 per week with a valid youth membership for ages 12-17. For more information or to enroll your child, please contact Felisha.
Teens in Training
Teens in Training is for teens ages 12-15 years old. Teens will learn how to properly use the equipment in the Wellness Center and learn about muscles and how they work with the body. This 2 day class meets the first T/W of every month at 6pm. Cost is $10 and includes both days of training and a test, which students must pass to use the Wellness Center without an adult present. For more details contact Vanessa or register at the Front Desk.
