Policies You Need to Know
The Goldsboro Family YMCA has policies in place for the benefit, safety and welfare of our members, guests and our organization. All policies are approved by the Goldsboro Family YMCA Board of Directors.
Children ages 15 & under may use the facility as long as their parents are in the building.
Children ages 12-15 must be enrolled in Prime Time to be in the facility without a parent or guardian. There is a two hour time limit per day. Membership card must be present to gain entrance into the facility. To learn more about Prime Time, click here. (link to Prime Time page)
All children between 6-12 years old must be registered and given a swim test by Y lifeguard staff prior to swimming without a parent.
The Y will permit children ages 18 and older to be considered the “supervising” guardian for their sibling(s) under the age of 13 when using the Y facilities.
Children under the age of 16 are not permitted in the cardio or strength training rooms. An exception will be made for youth ages 12 - 15 who complete a youth orientation. Once this requirement has been met, youth may workout in the Wellness Center. Youth will be required to show proof of orientation completion. Youth under the age of 16, without orientation cards, will be asked to leave the area.
Cell Phone Usage
Due to the advances in cell phone and video/picture technology and for the privacy of our members and guests: Cell phones, laptops and tablets are only permitted in designated areas of the Y facility. Cell phone and/or camera use in locker room areas and bathrooms are strictly prohibited.
Check-in/Scanning Your Card
In the event that an exercise class is cancelled due to an instructors illness or scheduling conflict, we will post such notices on our Facebook page. If a paid class is cancelled due to enrollment or likewise, the Y will contact you directly and arrange for rescheduling or refund requests.
Code of Conduct
At the Y, we expect staff, members and guest to behave in accordance with our mission and values at all times, respecting the rights and dignity of others. We demonstrate Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility by:
- Resolving conflicts in a respectful, honest and caring manner. Never resort to physical contact or threatening gestures.
- Speaking in respectful tones and refraining from the use of vulgar or derogatory language.
- Respecting others by refraining from intimate behavior in public; abstaining from contact of a sexual nature.
- Respecting the property of others; never engaging in theft or destruction.
- Creating a safe, caring environment; never carrying illegal firearms or devices.
- Participating in programs to build a healthy spirit, mind and body; never engaging in the use, sale, dispensing or possession of illegal drugs or narcotics, or the unsanctioned use of alcohol on Y premises
Adherence to the Y Code of Conduct and regulations is essential. Noncompliance may result in suspension or termination of Y membership privileges.
The Y reserves the right to deny access or membership to any person who has been convicted of any crime involving sexual abuse or is or has been registered as a sex offender. The Y also reserves the right to suspend access or membership to any person accused of the above pending the outcome of any charges or court proceedings.
Dress & Attire
We ask that Y members and guests respect others and dress appropriately at all times while in the facility. We ask that you please wear athletic shoes while in the gymnasium, Wellness Center and Fitness Center. All other workout areas require proper workout shirt, shorts or pants. Clothing must be clean, muddy items are not permitted. Clothing with abusive language or graphics that are offensive is not allowed in the facility at anytime.
Racquetball rackets/balls may be borrowed from the Front Desk. Basketballs & Pickleball equipment may be checked out as well from the gym. If you do not return equipment, you will be charged for replacement.
Guests must complete the guest registration form when visiting and have a form of ID if verification is needed.
Each visiting guest may utilize guest passes for up to 5 complimentary visits per year. Afterwards, each visit is $15 unless accompanied by a current Adult member, in which case the visit will be $10.
All guests under age 18 must use the General Locker Rooms.

While the Y will make every attempt to open or remain open in inclement weather, it reserves the right to delay opening, close early, or remain closed if the weather is serious enough to put our staff and members at risk.
For safety, our swimming pools are closed at the first sighting of lightening or sound of thunder, and will remain closed until 30 minutes have passed with no further sightings/sounds.
The Y building will be closed if a citywide weather emergency is declared, in that event, all programs, classes and building operating hours will be cancelled / closed. In the event the Wayne County Schools close, every effort will be made to run classes and programs. Make-up classes will not be rescheduled due to cancellation factors out of our control, such as inclement weather.

Lockers are available complementary for daily use. If you would like to rent a permanent locker for the year, please see the Front Desk and we will assist you in finding an available locker. Rentals are $24/year.
The Y is not liable for any articles damaged, lost or stolen. Please do not leave valuables left unattended.
Y staff members are CPR, First-Aid and AED (automatic external defibrillators) trained and certified. Please see a staff member immediately if someone needs assistance. We also encourage you to update your Emergency Contact information in your membership profile at the Front Desk.
Please take special care in locking up all personal belongings in both the locker rooms and in your vehicle. The Goldsboro Family YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen articles. Check with the Front Desk for items of value in the event that the item has been found and turned in.
For your safety and liability, Personal Trainers working with members in the Y facility must be employed by the Goldsboro YMCA. We work hard to ensure that our Personal Trainers have the proper certifications and meet our quality standards.
Trainers who are not employed by the Goldsboro YMCA will not be permitted to train other members in the facility, regardless of membership. If a trainer continues to train in the Y facility, his or her membership privileges will be revoked. The CEO of the Goldsboro YMCA exclusively retains the right to determine whether an individual is training other members and is in violation of this policy.
The Goldsboro Family YMCA occasionally video tapes/ photographs its members and participants in various activities. Some of these photos are used in Y marketing materials, ads or brochures. If you do not want your photo used by the Y please step out of the shot or notify the photographer before the picture is taken.
If the Y has to cancel a program, you will receive a full refund. No refund is given unless the program is cancelled by the Y. Races cancelled due to the weather will be handled on a case by case basis.
Suspension/Loss of Membership
Members and guests fighting, using foul/abusive language or other misuse of membership privileges are subject to suspension of membership privileges at the discretion of staff on duty.
