The Facility

The Shark Swim Team holds their practices in the Raymond A. Bryan Olympic Pool, at the Goldsboro Family YMCA. The facility has an eight lane “L” shaped 50 meter pool. The pool can be divided up into two, eight lane, 25 yard racing courses with a removable bulkhead. The pool is one of the best YMCA facilities in the eastern United States.

The Family YMCA has hosted Y State Championships, North Carolina High School Eastern Regionals, and the Dixie Zone Masters Championships. The pool has been the site of eleven North Carolina Swimming State Records and Master World Records.

Coaching Staff

Tammy Yates is in her first year as Head Coach of the GOLD YMCA Sharks.

She comes to Goldsboro from Carteret Currents Swimming where she was head coach. In that position she coached State and Sectional Championship qualifiers, a NCS State Champion, and a National Championship Qualifier. Previous to her tenure with the Currents, she was an assistant coach at the Greensboro Community YMCA swim team for four years and a swim instructor, lifeguard, and deck supervisor at the West Morris Area YMCA in Randolph, New Jersey.
Tammy received her bachelor's degree in Communications from Elon University in 2004 and is an ASCA Level 3 certified coach.

Tammy's swimming career began in her hometown of Succasunna, New Jersey where swam for the Roxbury Racers, West Morris Area YMCA, and the Roxbury High School swim team, where she was a three-year letter winner and co-captain her senior year. She is also an experienced swim lesson instructor and lifeguard.

After twenty years of experience as both a swimmer and coach in competitive swimming, Tammy strives to "teach people to be better human beings through swimming" by creating a fun and inviting environment and emphasizing character development, sportsmanship, and proper swimming technique.
